Quick verdict.

Choose SealTask if private task content and zero-knowledge encryption matter more than suite breadth. Choose MeisterTask if its specialized workflow is the primary requirement. MeisterTask is broader for automations, roles, reports, and packaged work-management workflows. SealTask is narrower and more privacy-driven.

AI processing means workspace content may be processed when AI features are enabled or used; it does not mean customer data is used for model training.

Who should choose which?

Choose SealTask if...

  • You handle sensitive client or internal project data
  • You need strong encryption for regulated workflows
  • You do not want server-side AI processing workspace content
  • You prefer focused task management over a broad work OS
  • You want the provider unable to read encrypted content
  • You want a licensed self-hosted Docker option on your own hardware

Choose MeisterTask if...

  • You need automations, roles, and reporting
  • EU hosting and ISO 27001 messaging are key
  • A mature work-management suite matters more than encryption
  • Your team wants templates and packaged workflows

Security architecture.

SealTask: zero-knowledge.

SealTask encrypts readable workspace content on your device with ChaCha20-Poly1305 before sync. The client unlocks keys with an OPAQUE export key plus HKDF, and optional one-time backup keys stay user-held. The service does not hold the keys needed to decrypt that content; account and operational metadata remain server-visible.

Result: A database breach or legal demand can expose ciphertext and server-visible account, billing, security, audit, service, and workspace metadata. SealTask cannot decrypt readable workspace content without the client-held keys.

MeisterTask: conventional SaaS security.

MeisterTask publishes standard security, privacy, or compliance information for cloud collaboration, but it does not position the product as SealTask-style client-side end-to-end encrypted task management. MeisterTask is broader for automations, roles, reports, and packaged work-management workflows. SealTask is narrower and more privacy-driven.

Result: That means MeisterTask can operate, index, support, or process workspace content in ways a zero-knowledge task app intentionally avoids. Use SealTask when provider-readable task content is the core risk.

Frequently asked questions.

Is MeisterTask end-to-end encrypted?

No. MeisterTask publishes encryption at rest and in transit, but not SealTask-style client-side end-to-end encryption. That means the service can process workspace content in plaintext for product features and authorized support workflows.

Can MeisterTask employees see my data?

MeisterTask publishes access controls and policies limiting employee access, but its architecture still permits authorized server-side access to workspace content. With SealTask's zero-knowledge architecture, even our engineers cannot access encrypted workspace content because we do not have the keys.

Does MeisterTask use my data for AI training?

MeisterTask publishes commitments that customer content is not used to train AI models. Its AI features can still process workspace content when enabled or used. SealTask cannot process encrypted workspace content with server-side AI because we cannot decrypt it.

Can I use MeisterTask or SealTask for HIPAA-regulated PHI?

Do not treat either product as HIPAA-ready by default. SealTask's zero-knowledge design may help with technical safeguards. Before any PHI use, SealTask must expressly agree in writing. Where HIPAA applies, SealTask and the customer must execute a HIPAA-compliant BAA before use. MeisterTask publishes GDPR and ISO 27001 messaging, but not a HIPAA or BAA program.

When should I choose MeisterTask instead of SealTask?

MeisterTask is broader for automations, roles, reports, and packaged work-management workflows. SealTask is narrower and more privacy-driven.

How do task tools' security track records compare?

We maintain dated, source-linked records of publicly documented security incidents across task-management vendors — what happened, how each event is classified, what the sources establish, and why Have I Been Pwned coverage is not the same as incident history.
